as senior vice president of finance. Marsho had managed loan and investment accounting for ING Direct in Wilmington.

National Penn Bancshares Inc., of Boyertown, Pa., announced the following hires:

Mark R. Mershon was named executive vice president and corporate treasurer. Mershon had been vice president and treasurer for United Community Banks Inc. in Blairsville, Ga.

Linda J. La Vay was named senior vice president and senior relationship manager at the National Penn Investors Trust Co. She had been suburban Philadelphia-area manager for the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Investment Management and Trust Division.

The bank also hired Brian S. Wubbe as vice president and sales officer at its National Penn Investors Trust Co. and Institutional Advisors L.L.C. divisions. Wubbe had been an internal institutional sales consultant and managed account specialist for Delaware Investments.

John L. Olsen joined WSFS Financial Corp. as senior vice president and general counsel. Olsen had been vice president and counsel at Wilmington Trust.

The Vanguard Group hired Gemma Wright-Casparius as principal and senior portfolio manager in the firm's fixed-income group. She had been fixed-income portfolio manager and deputy head of global macro research and strategy for a subsidiary of the Government of Singapore sovereign wealth fund.

Cornerstone Bank, of Mount Laurel, named Scott Kintzing market president, leading the bank's commercial banking division. Kintzing had been chairman of The Bank, Fulton Financial Corp.'s South Jersey bank.

Univest Bank & Trust Co., of Souderton, announced numerous promotions:

Philip C. Jackson was promoted to president for corporate banking from market president for Montgomery County and the Lehigh Valley.

Michael J. Fox was promoted to executive vice president for corporate banking from senior vice president and senior relationship manager.

Univest also promoted four to area vice president from area sales manager. The new vice presidents are Melissa Bieler, Briana Dona, Chris McCarthy, and Michael Woods.

Brinker Capital, a Berwyn investment management firm, hired William P. Simon Jr. as managing director for retirement plan services. Simon had been national sales manager for the eastern United States at American Funds.

JM & Co., a retained executive search firm, hired Daniel Campbell and David Thornbury as vice presidents. Campbell had been the president and CEO of Hunter Manufacturing L.L.P., and Thornbury had been vice president of sales for Epilogue Systems.

Peter Berget was named chair and professor of biological sciences at University of the Sciences. He had been associate professor of biological sciences since 1986 at Carnegie Mellon University and a member of the Molecular Biosensor and Imaging Center in the Mellon College of Science.

Bernard Hodes Group, a New York recruiter, hired Lou Manzi as a client strategist in its Northeast region, based in Philadelphia. Manzi had been vice president of talent solutions for GSK, responsible for overseeing the strategy and delivery of the global talent sourcing and recruitment functions.
