On the Boards

Friends' Central School, Wynnewood, has named Robert Gassel clerk and Karen Horikawa vice clerk of the board of trustees, beginning July 1, 2012. Gassel is president of Robert Gassel Co. Inc. Horikawa is a member of the Radnor Monthly Meeting and a science teacher and associate science department head at Wilmington Friends School.

Mitchell H. Kizner was selected chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Environmental Law Section. Kizner is a member of the environmental practice group, the alternative and renewable energy group and general counsel to Flaster/Greenberg, Cherry Hill and Vineland.

Historic Philadelphia Inc., whose programs include the Betsy Ross House, Once Upon a Nation storytelling, Adventure Tours, Franklin Square and the Lights of Liberty Show, has named the following board members:

Jolley Bruce Christman, founder of Research for Action.

Melanie Johnson, city representative of Philadelphia.

Mark Squilla, First District Councilman for Philadelphia City Council.

Montgomery County Community College, Blue Bell, has appointed Margot A. Clark to its board of trustees. Clark is a retired educator with more than 40 years of service as a teacher and administrator.

Rosemont College, a private Catholic school, has named Maria A. Feeley and Richard G. Schmidt to its board. Feeley is a partner with Pepper Hamilton L.L.P. Schmidt is an orthopedic oncologic surgeon and chief of orthopedic surgery at the Lankenau Medical Center.

Mayor Nutter and Council President Darrell L. Clarke announced the following appointees to the Jobs Commission, which is tasked with determining how the city and its partners can create and preserve private-sector jobs in Philadelphia. The commission will be chaired by Robert C. Nelson, president and CEO of Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center Inc.,

Ruta Bastos, senior vice president at Sovereign Bank, representing the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Mark Edwards, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corp.

Mark Konen and Kimberly C. Oxholm have joined the board of the Nature Conservancy, a nonprofit land conservation group. Konen is president of the insurance and retirement solutions divisions of Philadelphia-based Lincoln Financial Group. Oxholm has more than 30 years of leadership and participation in the nonprofit, grant-making, and political communities of the Philadelphia region, with a special emphasis on fund-raising, board governance, and advocacy.
