Lockheed Martin lands $4.6 billion defense contract for data network

Lockheed Martin Corp. has wrested a defense contract, valued at up to $4.6 billion, from 15-year incumbent Science Applications International Corp.

Lockheed Martin Corp. has wrested a defense contract, valued at up to $4.6 billion, from 15-year incumbent Science Applications International Corp.

Much of the work on the Department of Defense's global data network will be done at Fort Meade, Md., by employees of Lockheed's Information Systems & Global Solutions-Defense business unit, which is based in Valley Forge, where it employs about 1,500 people.

Awarded by the Defense Information Systems Agency, the Global Systems Management Operations contract covers three years, plus two two-year options.
