On the Boards

Lucille Wurtz has been named to the board of Durand Academy and Community Services, a Mount Laurel nonprofit organization that serves children and adults with special needs. Wurtz is customer relationship management director at Conigent Inc.

Liberty Lutheran, an Ambler nonprofit human-services organization that operates several facilities, named Beverly W. Bortz and the Rev. David Young to its board. Bortz is owner and president of Union Electric Contracting Co. Young is pastor at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Stephanie J. Sprenkle and Karen M. Sanchez were appointed hearing committee members by the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from District I Disciplinary District for a term of three years. Both are lawyers at Thorp Reed & Armstrong L.L.P. Sprenkle is senior counsel in the commercial, real estate and public finance practice group. Sanchez is an associate in the group.

The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Philadelphia, elected John C. Cavanaugh board president. He is chancellor and chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

GVF, a transportation management association in King of Prussia, elected Jeff Guzy president, replacing Stephen Lester, who will retire after 15 years. Bruce Hartlein, vice president at Liberty Property Trust, is vice president. Bert Cossaboon, vice president at McCormick Taylor, is a new board member.

Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties, Margate, installed Mitchell Gurwicz as president of the board. He is vice president and general counsel of Max Gurwicz Enterprises.

James J. Quinlan was been elected member-at-large of the George Washington University Alumni Association. He is an associate at Blank Rome L.L.P.

The Radnor Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides funding to the Radnor Township School District, elected Sheila Palmer and Sheryl Parente to its board. Both are parents of Radnor students; Palmer is strategic planning chair.

Lightwave Logic Inc., a Newark, Del., company developing applications in high-speed fiber-optic telecommunications and optical computing, appointed Ronald A. Bucchi to its board. He is a self-employed CPA and a member of the board of First Connecticut Bancorp Inc.

The Philadelphia School Partnership, which aims to raise $100 million to add seats to high-performing schools in the city — public, private or charter — named the following to its board: John Anderson Fry, president of Drexel University; Stacy Holland, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Youth Network; James J. Maguire, founder and chairman emeritus of Philadelphia Consolidated Holding Corp.; and Natalye Paquin, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.

The Consumers' Cooperative Association of Swarthmore Inc., the operator of the member-owned Swarthmore Co-op, elected the following members to its board: Pam Bartholomew, former marketing researcher for Scott Paper Co.; Michael Markowicz, owner of Image Connection; Helen Naidel, independent nutrition education consultant; and Tim Stopper, former music director of Greene Street Friends School.

The Phoenixville Community Education Foundation, a nonprofit group, elected Kelly Connors president. Connors is marketing director for Frees Insurance and replaces Joe Little, whose term expired.

Eric Simons, Jeanne Havrilla, and Cindy Stevens were named board members. Simons is a sales executive at Vanguard Group. Havrilla is a retired Phoenixville Area School District teacher. Stevens is co-chair of the foundation's annual fund-raiser and longtime PCEF volunteer.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia announced the appointment of Gerald L. Reeves, president, CEO, and director of Sturdy Savings Bank, to the bank's Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council for a three-year term.

The Philadelphia chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, an international association that focuses on corporate restructuring, turnaround management, and distressed investing, elected Josef W. Mintz to its board. He is an associate with Blank Rome L.L.P.

Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey & Philadelphia, a Maple Shade nonprofit organization, appointed Richard F. Pagano to its board of trustees. Pagano is a project manager for Philadelphia-based P. Agnes Inc.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia Endowments Corporation, a nonprofit charitable group, appointed Mark S. Blaskey president. Blaskey is a partner in the Philadelphia office of Pepper Hamilton L.L.P., and chairman of the firm's Trusts and Estates Practice Group.
