Temple contract ratified
Nurses and allied workers at Temple University Hospital ratified a new three-year contract that includes pay increases of 9 percent to 10 percent for most employees, the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals said. The contract, which was completed three months before the current deal expires on Sept. 30, covers 1,100 registered nurses and 600 professional and technical employees, the union said. The contract includes provisions for education and training, plus increased staffing levels to improve patient care, the union said. - Harold Brubaker
Cleanup at food warehouse
U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger in Philadelphia and the New Rich City Trading Corp. reached an agreement to correct unsanitary conditions at the company's food warehouse on the 2600 block of North American Street. Conditions there had included the presence of rodents, birds, cats, dogs, and animal feces, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Memeger announced a lawsuit against New Rich City on May 29. The consent decree requires the company to recall and destroy adulterated food, implement a sanitation-control program subject to Food and Drug Administration approval, and undergo inspections. - Reid Kanaley
UCB sues Teva
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., the world's largest generic-drug maker, with U.S. headquarters in North Wales, Montgomery County, was sued for patent infringement by a U.S. unit of UCB SA in a bid to block Teva's plan to copy the epilepsy drug Vimpat. UCB, based in Brussels, seeks unspecified damages from Teva, based in Israel. The complaint was filed in federal court in Wilmington. A Teva spokeswoman said the company had no comment. - Bloomberg News

Cyprus credit downgrade
Standard & Poor's lowered its credit rating on Cyprus, knocking the debt-stricken island country into "selective default." The country's long-term rating was already in "junk" status, but Friday's move pushed it down three levels. A "straight default" would mean the country was not meeting any of its obligations. - AP
Recalls at Ford, Honda
Ford is recalling 13,000 Explorer, Taurus, and Lincoln MKS cars and SUVs because the child-safety locks might not work. Honda is recalling 686,000 Fit and Jazz subcompacts because the power-window switches can catch fire. - AP
