One of the nation's largest insurance defense and litigation firms, Center City-based Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin P.C., announced Friday that it would acquire a 30-lawyer firm in New York to bolster its practice there.
The acquisition of Jones, Hirsch, Connors, Miller & Bull P.C. is expected to be finalized this year, said Thomas A. Brophy, Marshall Dennehey president and chief executive officer.
Marshall Dennehey has 475 lawyers, and adding the attorneys of Jones Hirsch will put the firm over the 500-lawyer mark.
"We are the largest defense firm in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware," said Brophy. "We don't want to be a small presence anywhere, and we wanted to have a more meaningful presence in New York."
Marshall Dennehy specializes in insurance defense work and other litigation for insurance industry clients, self-insured companies, and other clients. Its clients include Sea World, BMW, and Chrysler.
The firm said the lawyers at Jones Hirsch would join Marshall Dennehey offices on Long Island; in Manhattan and Roseland, N.J.; and in a new office in White Plains, N.Y.
