Acme Markets and its largest union, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776, have reached an agreement to extend the union's contract until July 1, the union said.

Acme's parent company, New Albertsons Inc., had notified the union that it would terminate the contract as of April 30.

The union has been working under the terms of that contract since it expired in February 2012. The main issue is the cost of health care.
