The Military Order of Foreign Wars of the United States, founded in 1894, has named David Acton commander of the Pennsylvania commandery. The order's mission includes supporting veterans and making younger generations aware of the history and deeds of the military in the founding of the United States. Acton has worked as an arbitrator and mediator for the last 25 years.

Jana M. Landon has been appointed to the board of trustees for the Center of Literacy, a Philadelphia nonprofit community-based literacy group. Landon is a lawyer at Stradley Ronon and cofounder of its e-discovery team.

Bernard Newman has been named president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. Newman, who previously served as the federation's campaign chair, is an owner and president of Newman & Co., a multigenerational family business in Northeast Philadelphia which supplies and recycles rigid paperboard,

The Building Industry Association of Philadelphia has elected Jason Nusbaum, founder and owner of City Living Philly, and Leo Addimando, cofounder and managing partner of Alterra Property Group L.L.C., to its board.

John Hubbard has joined the board of the Association of Clinical Research Organizations, Washington. Hubbard is president and CEO of BioClinica, Newtown.

The Mann Center for the Performing Arts, Philadelphia, has elected Glenn Blumenfeld and George McFarland to its board. Blumenfeld is president of Tactix Real Estate Advisors and McFarland is president of Pennsylvania Trust.

Kevin Robert has been named to the board of Vertex Inc., a Berwyn provider of corporate enterprise tax software and services. He joins the board after a 32-year career with Wolters Kluwer/Commerce Clearing House, where he was most recently CEO of the global tax and accounting division.

Joanne Phillips will serve as 2015 chair of the Delaware Valley chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate. She is a partner with Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia.

JDog Junk Removal & Hauling, a Berwyn firm working to increase post-military career opportunities for veterans, has launched the JDog Joint Chiefs Advisory Board. It will be headed by Douglas O'Dell, a retired Marine major general, and Larry Liss, a retired Army captain and decorated helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. The firm's employees work to sort, haul, recycle, discard, and transport items between locations.

Roger C. Collins has been elected to a four-year term to the board of the Georgia E. Gregory Interdenominational School of Music, a nonprofit, faith-based institution that provides music and performing arts education to at-risk children and their families in North Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Collins is president of RCC & Associates.

Kellie A. McGowan has been elected to the board of the Lenape Valley Foundation. McGowan is an lawyer with Eastburn & Gray.

Bethesda Project, a Philadelphia nonprofit serving the homeless, has named Kenneth Powell Jr. and Ann Watts to its board. Powell is a judge of Philadelphia Common Pleas Court. Watts is a data integrity analyst in development at the University of Pennsylvania

Louis B. Kupperman has been appointed by the Chester County Board of Commissioners to the board of the Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority, an authority created by Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties in 1985 to provide capital project loans to local governments. Kuppermanc is a lawyer at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel L.L.P., Philadelphia.
