The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia plans on Tuesday to announce the receipt of a $5 million donation from the Wawa Foundation and the opening of the Wawa Volunteer Center in the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care on the hospital's University City campus.

Wawa's founding Wood family has a history of supporting CHOP dating to the hospital's founding in the 1850s. Separate from the Wood family, Wawa has raised more than $3 million for CHOP programs, the hospital said.

CHOP said that through the Wawa Volunteer Center its goal is to increase its volunteer program to 1,000 particpants in the fiscal year that starts July 1, from 600 now.
