Robert E. Kohler,

professor emeritus of the Department of History and Sociology of Science at the University of Pennsylvania;

Jannie K. Lau,

executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at InterDigital;

Kelly Lee,

chief cultural officer of the City of Philadelphia's Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, also known as Creative Philadelphia;

Jay H. Shah,

CEO of Hersha Hospitality Trust; and

June Marshall Smith,

a member of the PAFA Women's Board since 2014 and a Women's Board event volunteer since 2005. Current trustees

Michael E. Bertin has been elected second vice chair of the Family Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He is a partner at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel L.L.P., Philadelphia.

The American Heart Association Southeast Pennsylvania has announced that IMC Construction president and CEO Robert Cottone will serve as volunteer chair of the 2016 Philadelphia Heart Walk.

Griswold Home Care, a Plymouth Meeting non-medical in-home care company, has named Calvin B. Johnson to its board. He is former executive vice president, chief medical officer, for Corizon Health, the largest provider of correctional health care in the United States.

St. James School, an Episcopal middle school in the Allegheny West neighborhood of North Philadelphia, has named Michael C. Laing, market leader and vice president at BB&T, and Bill Mignucci Jr., president of Di Bruno Bros., to its board.

Bill Mikus, vice president for human resources at Valley Forge Casino Resort, has joined the board of the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter.

Tabor Children's Services, a community-based child-welfare organization serving Bucks County, Philadelphia, and the Lehigh Valley, has named Laura Powers to its board. She is chief marketing officer of Furia Rubel Communications Inc.

Peter A. Austen, CEO of Marine North America, has been named chair of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. Amy Coes and Amy Branch were elected to the board. Coes is a consultant for the American furniture department at Sotheby's. Branch is an equity partner of the Iroquois Group.

Sarah F. Dooley has joined the executive board of the Verdict, the regular newsletter of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, which reports on current issues in trial practice, developments in Pennsylvania appellate law, association events and area awards, and verdicts and settlements of note. She is an attorney at Duffy + Partners, Philadelphia.

Gail A. Edelsohn has been named president-elect of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society, a nonprofit professional association. Edelsohn is senior medical director at Community Care Behavioral Health Organization.

Applied Bank, Wilmington, has elected Fred C. Sears II to its board. He recently retired from the Delaware Community Foundation, where he served as president and CEO for 13 years.

Bernie Prazenica, president and general manager of WPVI-TV 6ABC, has been elected chair of the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia. Through PAL, Philadelphia police officers, supported by civilians and volunteers, offer sports, educational, and cultural programs to more than 18,000 at-risk youths in 17 centers. Elected vice chair was Lyn Pierce Strickler, executive vice president/managing director of Harmelin Media. Ron Rabena, division president, national security operations, of AlliedBarton Security Services, has been named treasurer.

Other officers include reelected vice chairs David J. Campoli, executive vice president, national property management operations of the RMR Group; Donald L. Heller, senior vice dean for finance and administration, Temple University School of Media and Communication; and Athole G. Jacobi, M.D.; Maureen S. Rush, vice president for public safety and superintendent of Penn Police, University of Pennsylvania. John P. Pierce, chair, real estate department, Saul Ewing L.L.P., is secretary. Jeffrey B. Hendrey, Philadelphia pharma and life sciences leader, PwC, is the immediate past chair.MedAvante Inc., a Hamilton, N.J., provider of technology-based clinical-trial services for central nervous system disorders, has named Richard F. Cimino and Nigel Brown to its board. Both had been with Covance Inc., Cimino as executive vice president of clinical development and commercialization services and Brown as corporate vice president of business development and strategy. - Mike Zebe
