DuPont Industrial Biosciences gets grant from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

DuPont Industrial Biosciences in Wilmington said it has received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support a new area of research. Financial terms were not disclosed.  The funds will be used for a research project aimed at rapid scale-up to make high volumes of affordable, protein-based biologic medications such as monoclonal antibodies.

The antibodies would potentially be suitable to treat infectious diseases, manage outbreaks, and provide an affordable supply to people around the world, DuPont said.
