Penn's Kleinman Energy Center to fête IEA tête

Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency, will receive the second annual Carnot Prize from the University of Pennsylvania's Kleinman Center for Energy Policy on Nov. 17.

Birol, a native of Turkey, took over the IEA's leadership last year. The agency, which is based in Paris and has 29 member countries, was founded in 1974 by oil-importing nations to coordinate a collective response to major disruptions in energy supply.

Penn president Amy Gutmann is scheduled to bestow the prize on Birol, who will also deliver a policy address. Participants must pre-register for the event at http://www.kleinmanenergy.upenn.edu/annual-carnot-prize
