Rite Aid closing 28 stores in Nevada

Rite Aid Corp., of Camp Hill, today said it will close 28 stores in Nevada and had sold patient prescription files of its 27 Las Vegas stores to Wallgreens.

Rite Aid Corp., of Camp Hill, today said it will close 28 stores in Nevada and had sold patient prescription files of its 27 Las Vegas stores to Wallgreens.

Las Vegas was a "non-core market" and had not been contributing to overall results, Rite Aid said in a statement.

The drug store chain said it was in the process of selling the pharmacy files from a store it is closing in Mesquite, Nev., but will continue to operate one Nevada store near the California border.

The stores will close over the next three months. The company said it was "working with interested parties on selling or assigning the leases."

Rite Aid has about 5,000 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Shares were down 16 cents, to $2.12 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
