Long-time co-manager retiring at Vanguard’s Wellesley

The co-manager of one of the Vanguard Group's best-known mutual funds, the $13.3 billion Vanguard Wellesley Income fund, is retiring in June, the Malvern mutual-fund company said today.

The co-manager of one of the Vanguard Group's best-known mutual funds, the $13.3 billion Vanguard Wellesley Income fund, is retiring in June, the Malvern mutual-fund company said today.

Earl E. McEvoy, a senior vice president with Wellington Management Co. L.L.P. of Boston, also manages the $8.8 billion Vanguard High-Yield Corporate fund and the $5.7 billion Vanguard Longterm Investment-Grade fund.

McEvoy, 59, joined Wellington in 1978 and has managed the fixed-income portion of Wellesley since 1982.

McEvoy will be succeeded by John C. Keogh on the Wellesley Income fund, by Michael L Hong on the high-yield corporate fund, and by Lucius T. Hill III on the longterm investment-grade fund.

Wellington has an office in Radnor, but the management of these funds will remain in Boston.
