Nutrisystem Inc. said it expects to take a noncash charge of as much as $5 million before taxes related to a New York-based fresh-food delivery business that it acquired last year.

The Horsham weight-loss company said that the $5 million before taxes would reflect an impairment charge on the value of the goodwill and identifiable intangibles related to Nu-Kitchen, which it acquired in July 2008.

Nu-Kitchen prepares and delivers meals in the New York City area that are designed to promote weight management and healthy living.

The company said it expects to take the charge in the fourth quarter.

Company shares were priced at $33.07, up 15 cents, shortly after trading opened this morning.
