Aqua America Inc.'s Pennsylvania subsidiary, Aqua Pennsylvania Inc., has acquired the assets of the Athens Township Authority in Bradford County for $70,000.

Aqua America, which is based in Bryn Mawr, said the assets include 17,000 feet of transmission main and a 433,000-gallon tank.

Aqua America said that, at the same time, Aqua Pennsylvania signed a bulk-water sales contract with the Chemung County (N.Y.) Industrial Development Agency to provide water to a new commercial pharmaceutical warehouse in Chemung Township, N.Y.

A $1.2 million, 9,650-foot pipeline extension is being installed to carry the water from Athens to Chemung.

Also, Aqua's subsidiary Aqua Resources Inc. signed a 20-year professional-services agreement with CCIDA to run the system in New York.

About 75 properties that abut the main could have an opportunity to tap into Aqua America's water supply, the company said.
