HARTFORD - Central Connecticut State University says it is naming one of its schools in honor of an alumnus who is donating $8 million to the university.

Carol Ammon, a 1973 graduate who lives in Delaware, says she made her donation because she appreciates the mentoring and other support she received at Central.

The university's School of Arts and Sciences is being named in her honor. Announcements about the donation and name change were made Friday.

Ammon is chairman of the board of the Christiana Care Health System. She is best-known as founder and chief executive officer of Pennsylvania-based Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., from which she retired in 2007.

Her donation will pay for scholarships and academic programs at Central.
