FAA delays decision on airport tower closings

FAA chief operating officer J. David Grizzle said the agency is reviewing appeals from many of the 189 small airports slated for reduced tower hours, or elimination of tower operations.
The FAA permitted small airports, such as Trenton-Mercer Airport, where Frontier Airlines now has commercial flights, to explain why elimination of funding for control towers "would adversely affect the national interest," Grizzle said. The FAA is reviewing each airport and will announce a final decision on March 22.
