FDA approves GlaxoSmithKline influenza vaccine for children six months and older

The Food and Drug Administration has approved GlaxoSmithKline's influenza vaccine for children 6 months and older. Previously, the vaccine was approved for people 3 years and older, the drugmaker said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older, according to the CDC website. About 20,000 children a year under age 5 are hospitalized because of influenza complications, GSK said.
