A division of Dutch supermarket giant Royal Ahold NV's U.S. operation is leasing space on the ground floor of the Abbotts Square condominum building at Second and South Streets for a small-format higher-end grocery store aimed at urban shoppers.

Fresh Formats LLC spokeswoman Suzi Robinson said Thursday the company has entered into a lease agreement at the property and is working on its plans for the site. There is no timetable for the opening.

The division has operated the 3,700-square-foot Everything Fresh grocery store at 1222 Walnut St., which it has cast as a testing ground for its smaller-footprint shops, since December 2014.

Fresh Formats has since opened stores of a similar format under its bfresh brand in Fairfield, Conn., and Allston, Mass. Parent Ahold USA operates the larger-format Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets brands.
