Developer Shift Capital buys Juniata Park industrial building

Real-estate start-up Shift Capital has acquired the former Progress Lighting building in Juniata Park.

Real-estate start-up Shift Capital has acquired the former Progress Lighting building in Juniata Park, with plans to upgrade the building for further industrial and manufacturing use.

Shift bought the 820,000-square-foot building on 19 acres at 856 E. Erie Ave. from the family of late hardware-manufacturing-company-head Howard Berger, Patrick Gilmore of The Flynn Co., who brokered the transaction, said Thursday.

The property sold for $3.48 million on Aug. 23, according to records filed with the city.

Shift, of Philadelphia, focuses on projects that can help revitalize neighborhoods, according to its website. Past projects include Maken Studios, a renovated industrial space in Kensington that now accommodates artist studios, offices and small manufacturers.
