Philadelphia is among the most expensive rental markets in the country. While monthly rents are still highest in neighborhoods like Rittenhouse, Logan Square and University City, Point Breeze rates are up 22 percent since March of last year. The current median rent for a one-bedroom unit in the neighborhood is about $1,100. Below are three examples of what that budget will get you in the up-and-coming neighborhood.

1258 S. 17th St., #2F
Monthly rent: $1,050
Tell me all about it: We love that this one-bedroom unit also includes a separate office. The fact that it's located on a corner means you'd get plenty of light, too. The building has been newly renovated, meaning the kitchen is still gleaming. Central air is included, but don't try to bring a pet.

1541 S. 20th St.
Monthly rent: $950
Tell me all about it: This one-bedroom unit includes the most coveted of all apartment amenities: private laundry. It also boasts an outdoor space (though the listing doesn't include any photos). At 900 square feet, it's perfect for you and your cat, which is permitted in the building.

1728 S. 19th St., #2
Monthly rent: $795
Tell me all about it: This one-bedroom is calling out for a renter who can design on a dime. As real estate experts say, it has great bones. There's a huge deck, and the interior rooms are a good size for a single renter. But there's also drop ceiling, a closet with an accordion door, and a kitchen floor you might want to replace. The good news is you'll have some cash left over because this apartment is a steal compared to some of the neighbors.
