SEPTA seeks input on King of Prussia rail extensions

KING OF PRUSSIA SEPTA is seeking public input in choosing a route for its proposed rail extension to King of Prussia.

The project aims to extend the Norristown High-Speed Line to the King of Prussia mall and Valley Forge business parks, which currently are served only by buses.

SEPTA last year narrowed the list of routes from 30 to 12 and has settled on five. After taking feedback from residents, business owners, and workers, the transit agency over the next year will designate one "locally preferred alternative" and move forward with environmental impact studies, designs, and financing.

The project is expected to take about a decade to complete and is estimated to cost in the neighborhood of $500 million.

The five routes can be viewed at kingofprussiarail.com, along with frequently asked questions, a project timeline, and survey forms for those who can't attend one of the three hearings this month.

The sessions will begin with a 30-minute presentation of the five routes, followed by an open-format workshop. One session is scheduled for Monday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge Grand Ballroom, 1160 First Ave., King of Prussia.

Two sessions will be held March 25, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Doubletree Hotel Valley Forge, Jefferson Ballroom, 301 W. DeKalb Pike, King of Prussia. - Jessica Parks
