Dan Gross: Bolaris gave a Stern warning about Irene

APPARENTLY Fox 29's John Bolaris is the personal meteorologist of Howard Stern and his wife. Model and animal activist Beth Ostrosky Stern called Bolaris before Hurricane Irene to ask whether she and the SiriusXM host should cancel a planned trip to Vermont. Bolaris told the couple yes, and so they didn't visit the state which, though landlocked, was mercilessly pounded by Irene.

Hip-hop to 107.9

Today, WRNB takes over 100.3 The Beat and will simulcast at 107.9 until 5 p.m. Friday when a hip-hop music station takes over.

It won't be called the Beat, says Radio One spokesman Amir Khan, who wouldn't comment when we asked whether the station would be called Hot 107.9, like the hip-hop station in Atlanta.

Paranormal Ambler

"Paranormal State" star Ryan Buell will be in Ambler Tuesday to screen his new self-funded movie, "American Ghost Hunter," at the Broad Axe Tavern (901 E. Butler).

Buell made the film with his "Paranormal" colleague Chad Calek. The documentary investigates a series of suicides and claims of paranormal activity in Calek's home state of Iowa. The guys chose to bypass the studios by doing a grassroots campaign of screenings around the country, promoting it largely on Twitter and Facebook, Buell says.
