Harry Gross: Harry Gross bids farewell with good advice, as ever

ECONOMIC conditions are tough. They are especially tough in the area of the print media. As a result, this will be my last column. I have enjoyed my many years at the Daily News more than my vocabulary can describe. I always operated without any editorial restrictions on my opinions, for which I have always been grateful. That goes for more than 10,000 columns!

I will miss the associations I have had here. From the security guards to the editors and management. They have always been warm, helpful and friendly. That also applies to our readers with rare exceptions. I was never bored or jaded in my work. The letters kept me up to date on many things. I especially feel sad that I will no longer be in a position to help the many prisoners who have written to me. In many cases, I was a last resort to those who were unable to help themselves.

I leave you with two thoughts: Live beneath your means; and if it sounds to good to be true, it is too good to be true. So farewell my friends and colleagues. I wish you all peace of mind and good health.
