Eagles-Buccaneers: the pick

Expect the Birds to eke to eke out a win, but it's doubtful they'll cover.

After last week, I think I will be ready to pick the Eagles to cover again sometime late in the 2045 season.

The Eagles' offense will again have a tough go of it, against a defense that ranks 10th against the pass, 12th against the rush, in Mark Sanchez's first start of the season at quarterback.

But I for some reason, I am picking the Birds to muddle through, though not to cover the generous 5 1/2-point spread. Bottom line, I am expecting one of those periodic "save the season" efforts, especially since taking a banged-up bunch to Detroit for a short Thanksgiving turnaround doesn't look like any sort of sure thing.

Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is missing some of his key weapons, and the Eagles' defense, when it isn't working on fields shortened by punt blocks, etc., is more than decent.

Prediction: Eagles 18, Bucs 16
