After miscarriages, Fox 29's Kerry Barrett welcomes son

FOX 29 anchor Kerry Barrett welcomed her new son, John Barrett IV, this weekend. They'll call the little bundle of joy Jay. He was a healthy 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

This is Barrett's second child with husband, John, an F-16 pilot with the New Jersey Air National Guard, following 3-year-old Avery.

Barrett opened up about her struggles with pregnancy on the evening news November of last year. Barrett had suffered several miscarriages, including a tragic miscarriage right before a 10 o'clock broadcast, before any of her colleagues knew she was pregnant.

"I almost felt ashamed or embarrassed about how my body failed, but by talking about it, I understood that [miscarriage] wasn't a failing of mine or my body," Barrett told me about why she went public. "There's a certain sense of catharsis in that."

* In other baby-bump news, I hear that entrepreneur and former party promoter Carl Dash is expecting his first baby, a son, in July with wife Eleasa Brady.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. popped the question to children's reading specialist Jami Schnell, according to PhillyChitChat's HughE Dillon, who caught up with Schnell at Rouge (205 S. 18th St.) this weekend.

Michael Callahan has left, or - as I heard - bolted from his post as executive editor at Philadelphia magazine. He's headed to Vanity Fair, where he'll serve as contributing editor, and will also freelance for other outlets, like Town and Country, where, I hear, he has a big piece on the Philadelphia Kelly family (think Jack and Grace) coming soon.

Questlove will spin tunes for the Great Chefs after-party at Alla Spina (1410 Mt. Vernon St.) on June 10. The event, featuring such world-renowned chefs as Tom Colicchio and Jonathan Waxman, supports Alex's Lemonade Stand. For more info, go to vetrifoundation.org.

* Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps partied it up at the Borgata (1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City) this weekend, rocking out with DJ Irie at mur.mur on Saturday night. Could Phelps have been celebrating his return from retirement? Either way, Phelps is quite the gambler. The 22-time medalist (18 of those are gold) made his debut at the World Series of Poker last year.

* Gov. Corbett stopped by Geno's Steaks (1219 S. 9th St.) on Monday night and ordered two provolone wits. The guv was in town for a breakfast yesterday morning at the Union League with Mayor Nutter, Archbishop Charles Chaput and 170 community and business leaders to talk about their recent papal visit to Rome and to get the heavy-hitters to do their part to help fund the expected arrival of Pope Francis, who likely is coming to hang in Philly during his 2015 U.S. tour.

* Temple basketball coach Fran Dunphy and a few friends stopped by Saint Declan's Well (3131 Walnut St.) after attending the Big 5 Awards/Hall of Fame Dinner at the Palestra on Monday night. The crew came in to catch the end of the Phillies game. So sorry you had to see that, guys.

A website called GetGoodHead.com (no, seriously, that's the title) ranked the best male hair in local news and no Philly guys made the list (Jamison Uhler, formerly of NBC10, now in Tampa, gets a nod though). What gives? We've got reporters with great follicular qualities. Take CBS3's Jim Donovan, Fox 29's Steve Keeley, NBC10's Keith Jones or 6ABC's salt-and-peppery David Murphy? I demand a re-ranking!
