The Boss' moods

In weightier matters, Springsteen reveals in his memoir that he has struggled with depression for 30 years.

So he feels blue sometimes? It's darker than that, the Boss writes in Born to Run, due Sept. 27.

The experience is impossible to describe if you haven't been there, he writes before trying to explain it using a car metaphor. "It never leaves you. I always picture it as a car. All your selves are in it. And a new self can get in, but the old selves can't ever get out. The important thing is, who's got their hands on the wheel at any given moment?"

Springsteen, 66, has been treated with a combination of talk therapy and antidepressants.
