Kimmel's big break

Jimmy Kimmel has been chosen to host his first Oscars telecast, the Academy of Motion Pictures said Monday.

Several TV pundits have pointed out that ABC, home to Kimmel's late-night talker, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has lobbied hard since August - when the network extended its deal to run the awards - for the comic to get the job.

The 89th Academy Awards will air live Feb. 26.

Brangelina reaches deal

Divorcing megastars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have called a cease-fire in their bitter feud over their six children.

It's a Hollywood cautionary tale: Don't make films about a bad marriage costarring with your real spouse (as the pair did in Mr. and Mrs. Smith).

The couple have reached a temporary custody agreement, says E!News, citing court documents. Jolie will retain physical custody, while Pitt will continue to have "therapeutic visitation" with his kids overseen by an therapist. Pitt must attend group therapy sessions with the kids and be subject to random drug tests. Each child also will continue to have individual therapy.

Lady Gaga spreads it around

Kindness is good and should be spread about, Lady Gaga said during a recent visit to a shelter for homeless LGBT youth in Harlem as part of the #ShareKindness charity (and P.R.) program cosponsored by the Today show, which shared a recording of the visit.

"I love to give things to people that have nothing, or less than me. These children are not just homeless or in need. Many of them are trauma survivors. They've been rejected in some kind of way," Gaga said. "My own trauma in my life has helped me understand the trauma of others."

The pop star, who last year revealed she was raped at age 19, gave away a secret. "I told the kids today, 'I suffer from PTSD.' I've never told anyone that before." She added, "I have a mental illness, and I struggle with that every day."

Conan: Ich bin ein Berliner

Conan O'Brien's show airing Wednesday was shot in Berlin, where the comic visited a dominatrix. "And it turned out to be more compelling because," he says, "she didn't treat it like a joke."
