39 Cappie Awards presented

Thirty-nine Greater Philadelphia Cappie Awards, regional student theater's equivalent of Broadway's Tony Awards, were presented Sunday night at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

Thirty-nine Greater Philadelphia Cappie Awards, regional student theater's equivalent of Broadway's Tony Awards, were presented Sunday night at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

The Cappies were awarded to high school critics, technicians, ensembles, and performers from 34 participating schools in the nine-county region.

Among the winners:

Musical: Haverford School, Damn Yankees. Lead Actress in a Musical: Devin Lloyd, Haverford High School, Urinetown. Lead Actor in a Musical: Mark Watter, Haverford High, Urinetown.

Play: Springfield High School, Delaware County, The Laramie Project. Lead Actress in a Play: Gwynne Richmond, Upper Merion High School, Lost in Yonkers. Lead Actor in a Play: Jeffrey Familetti, Episcopal Academy, James and the Giant Peach.

Sets: Stagecraft class, Academy of the New Church, Thoroughly Modern Millie.

A special Cappie award for dedication to theater and journalism was presented to honor Casey Feldman, who while a student at Springfield High School in Delaware County was a Cappie Critic. She died in a 2009 car accident.
