La Salle names interim president

James Gallagher, a former president of Philadelphia University, will succeed Brother Michael McGinniss.

LA SALLE University named James Gallagher as interim president yesterday.

Gallagher, a former president of Philadelphia University, will succeed Br. Michael McGinniss, who is stepping down after 15 years when his term expires at the end of the month.

In addition to Gallagher's duties as interim president, the board of trustees has asked him to participate in the university's search for its next president and to help develop its strategic plan.

"Dr. Gallagher is an extremely respected, seasoned president and accomplished academic leader who is ideally suited to maximize La Salle's potential during this interim period," said board chairman William Sautter.

A longtime college administrator, Gallagher led Philadelphia University for 23 years. He also served as interim president of Arcadia University in 2011.
