College honored for psychology

DOYLESTOWN A website that ranks schools with psychology programs has recognized Delaware Valley College as one of "30 Great Small Colleges for a Counseling Degree."

The site, Best Psychology Degrees, examined a select group of accredited colleges and universities with fewer than 3,000 undergraduates. It chose schools based on factors that included the percentage of students admitted and the number of psychology and counseling degrees conferred.

"Del Val provides small classes where students can really get to know faculty on a one-on-one basis," Allison Buskirk-Cohen, Del Val associate professor of counseling psychology, said in a news release.

"We combine classroom instruction with an emphasis on real-world experience, and I think because of this combination, our graduates are more prepared to enter the field."

Students practice their skills in mock sessions while receiving feedback from faculty in real time. The school also offers a graduate program in counseling psychology that provides opportunities for bachelor's degree students to interact with graduate-level students.
