Cabrini official receives award

RADNOR TOWNSHIP A Cabrini College administrator has received a national award for his efforts in helping freshmen.

Richie Gebauer, director of the First-Year Experience at the college, was one of only 10 people nationwide to receive the outstanding first-year student advocate award from Cengage Learning and the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.

Since 2007, Gebauer has helped improve the pre-orientation, summer orientation, and peer mentor programs. He has increased the number of Living and Learning Communities programs and included one for commuters and another to assist underprepared students.

In 2013, 93 percent of the first-year students attended one of three orientation sessions that ranged from adventure-based excursions to faith-based exploration.
