DOYLESTOWN Delaware Valley University will open its fall semester with a 7 percent increase in undergraduate enrollment over last year, meaning its student population is higher than it has been in almost two decades, the school announced last week.

Overall, the school is expected to welcome about 2,300 students to campus this fall, including a combined 650 freshman and transfer students, according to university spokeswoman Annmarie Ely.

Total enrollment is at its highest point in 18 years, the school said, and is likely the result of a number of factors: an increased percentage of undergraduates returning to DelVal for another year, for example, and an effort to make the school easier to access for transfer students.

Art Goon, vice president for enrollment management, noted that the transfer push, in particular, had a great impact.

"Those efforts resulted in a 22 percent increase in new transfer students from last year, and the largest new transfer class in DelVal's history," he said in a statement.

The university also reported a crunch in residence halls, which are currently at 105 percent capacity.
