An autopsy has determined that Dan Reimold, a St. Joseph's University journalism professor, died of a seizure disorder.
News of his death in August drew tributes from around the country, as former students and colleagues recalled Reimold's passion for journalism and ability to inspire others. Under his leadership, St. Joe's student newspaper, the Hawk, won a Pacemaker Award for daily reporting in 2013.
Reimold, 34, also founded College Media Matters, a blog that was often cited as the foremost authority on college journalism.
Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman said in an email that Reimold had a history of seizures, but there was "no documented cause" for them. Reimold was found dead in his Lower Merion apartment a few days before the fall semester started after friends reported they hadn't heard from him in a few days. He was an alumnus of Bensalem High School, Ursinus College, Temple University, and Ohio University. He previously wrote for the Bucks County Courier Times and worked as an intern at The Inquirer. - Jessica Parks
