A preliminary hearing for Pennsylvania State University officials charged with perjury and other offenses for their roles in the child sex abuse scandal will start Monday, July 29 at the Dauphin County Courthouse.

The hearing date is the same for all three officials  - former President Graham B. Spanier, former athletic director Tim Curley  and former vice president Gary Schultz. They are charged with perjury, failure to report suspected abuse, and related offenses in the child sex abuse case against former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, now in prison.

The hearing will start at 9 a.m. and continue on Tuesday, July 30 and Thursday, Aug. 1 if necessary, the court ordered.

The hearing and subsequent trial could yield answers thaT many in the Penn State community have been asking for since former FBI Director Louis Freeh issued his blistering report, accusing the officials and Coach Joe Paterno of covering up the abuse. Paterno was not charged; he died of cancer in January 2012.
