Guitar legend

Les Paul

played a benefit concert Thursday night in his hometown of Waukesha, Wis., that raised $100,000 for an exhibit on his life at the Waukesha County Historical Society. The 91-year-old Paul, who played a 90-minute set with his jazz trio, had not played back home for decades.

"I'm nervous tonight," he said.

Paul is renowned for inventing, in the '40s, the solid-body electric guitar, which opened the door to rock-and-roll. ("Thank God the younger generation latched onto it," he said.)

Paul said he was inspired to create the guitar when an audience member at one of his gigs complained his guitar needed to be much louder.

"I went home and I said to my mother, 'I've got a critic, and the critic has something to say. It's up to me to do something about it. So I'll make an electric guitar,' " he said.

Opie and Anthony, again!

Popular shock-jock duo,

Opie and Anthony

, who joined XM Satellite Radio after being dumped by CBS Radio for offensive on-air remarks, have managed to scandalize XM listeners - who get to pay for the privilege.

Yesterday, Anthony Cumia and Greg "Opie" Hughes apologized on air for a Wednesday segment during which a homeless man the jocks call Homeless Charlie spewed a bucketful of obscenities as he described for the duo how he'd like to have sex with a list of women, including Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth.

"We take very seriously the responsibility that comes with our creative freedom," the shock jocks said. They said they "regret any offense that this segment has caused." Since XM is on satellite, its content is not restricted by the Federal Communications Commission. An edited version of the same bit was heard on their WYSP broadcast earlier that same morning.

star

Jaime Pressly

gave birth to a boy,

Dezi James

, yesterday, E!Online reports. Coauthored by the actress' deejay fiancé,

Eric Cubiche

, the boy weighed in at six pounds. How's that for timing? A day after the sitcom season ended.

Pressly said he's named after Desi Arnaz because her man yells out, "Luuuuucy, I'm ho-ome," when he arrives at their digs. Dezi's middle name honors Pressly's pa, James Liston Pressly.

More Friday nights

Variety says NBC's inspirational high school football soap,

Friday Night Lights

, will be back next season, despite low ratings.

Lights

originated as a book about a high school football team in the poor Texas town of Odessa by former Inquirer writer

Buzz Bissinger.

Peter Berg

, who directed the2004 feature film, is the show's exec producer.

Captain Jack Sparrow the 4th

Johnny Depp

says he'd consider making a fourth

Pirates of the Caribbean

, but only if it's done for the "right reasons." So what would make the grade? The Deppster's criteria are most exacting - and most excellent: "If we came up with a story where we could explore something absurd or funny or totally insane."

The third Pirates film, At World's End, debuts May 25 and is expected to haul off more chests full of gold than Davy Jones ever saw.
