RAIN OR SHINE, the Greater Philadelphia Cares organization wants you to give back to the park that serves as Philadelphia's backyard and playground tomorrow. From 9 a.m. until noon, park lovers are invited to participate in programs at 45 locations during Philadelphia Cares about Fairmount Park Day 2007.

Showers and wind in the forecast shouldn't deter participants. Bring a poncho, some rain boots and some of that famous Philly determination, and remember: A rainy day is a great way to avoid sunburn.

Preregistration for this event is encouraged and gives volunteers the opportunity to choose from many locations and project options, including cleaning playgrounds, planting trees, maintaining gardens and repairing trails. Registration and a list of locations are available at www.philacares.com, or by phone at 215-564-4544.

Dress to work and get dirty. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and long pants are recommended as workers may encounter poison ivy, ticks, bees and mosquitoes. Obviously, volunteers should bring water, and are also responsible for providing their own sunscreen, insect repellent and snacks.

Philadelphia Cares about Fairmount Park Day is open to individuals and teams, and is an excellent chance for entire families to get together and do something great outdoors.

Children should be 10 years or older, and those under 16 may participate only with parental approval. *
