The Insider

says the lovebirds' passion was recently reignited when Joey finished a four-month stretch in jail for illegal possession of ammunition. (The dreamboat's smile ought to be ammo enough, baby).

Back together 15 years after Amy shot Joey's then-wife Mary Jo in the head as a love gift, the sagacious couple gave jail-bound Paris Hilton some advice. Amy, who did seven years' hard time, didn't mince words: She said Paris' 23 days is a cakewalk and seems like an eternity "for Paris Hilton, not for anyone else."

For his part, Joey was all stoic. "Go in, stay to yourself," he said. "Don't make any friends. Keep quiet and just come home."

(Sounds like my normal life.)

Mercy and grace for Stapp?

The Palm Beach County sheriff's department says Judge

Cory J. Ciklin

yesterday reduced a felony assault charge against former

Creed

spiritual seeker

Scott Stapp

, who was arrested Sunday after an alleged altercation with his wife of 15 months,

Jaclyn Nesheiwat

.

The judge changed the charge to a misdemeanor. He didn't agree that an Orangina bottle Stapp allegedly hurled at his wife counts as a "deadly weapon." (It missed.)

Breaking for love

Confirmation on this dread day by ent & celeb show

Extra

that

Paula Abdul's

attempt to avoid stepping on her chihuahua,

Tulip

, over the weekend was rewarded by misery: The loopy

American Idol

judge tripped, fell and broke her nose. Tulip was not injured.

Hope for the Hoff?

TMZ.com says a closed hearing yesterday in L.A. family court ended with good news for

David Hasselhoff

. The multitalented performer's chances of getting custody of

Hayley

and

Taylor Ann

, his two kids with his ex,

Pamela Bach

, looked bleak two weeks ago, when his visitation rights were suspended after release of a video showing a very drunken Hoff telling his kids how messed up he was. But yesterday, the judge gave The Hoff full custody until the next hearing in two weeks.

The Spears trail

Britney Spears

was truckin' along this weekend in Florida on her mini-comeback demi-tour, which boasted identical micro-concerts Saturday at the House of Blues in Orlando and Sunday at the Miami Beach hot spot Mansion.

People mag says fans at both venues waited outside for hours for the chance to witness 14 lip-synched minutes of pretend performance.

But there were a couple of glitches. Fans, usually as sharp as they come, were shocked when a technical malfunction made it clear Brit was lip-synching. (Duh . . .) On Sunday, the mother of two had a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction when her jewel-covered pink bra came undone for a few secs.

Happy trails, Brit!
