In the fall of 2006, at Meadowview Nursing Home in Williamstown, Gloucester County. Kevin, 31, was on rotation as part of his geriatric fellowship. BethAnne, 26, was also on rotation, for her dietetic internship. Kevin immediately caught BethAnne's eye: Who was this cute doctor who shunned the white coat for dress pants and Chuck Taylor sneakers, and who literally tucked in his patients? Kevin noticed BethAnne, too - he introduced himself, and they began to talk and flirt regularly.
On what BethAnne thought was Kevin's last day at Meadowview, she decided she had to do something before he was gone from her life forever. She put a note with her phone number on his car. By the time she learned that his last day wasn't until the next week, it was too late to retrieve the note. But Kevin was glad to get it - he had planned to ask BethAnne for her number on his actual last day.
He asked
In July 2007, Kevin, who grew up in Mount Laurel, surprised BethAnne, from Washington Township, with a trip to Paris. She was driving home from his apartment on her day off and when she pulled down her sun visor, a card fell on her lap. "The word passport caught my eye. So I pulled over. It said how my note had started the adventure of our relationship, and this card was going to start a new adventure." It also said to pack for a week.
Not even during the limo ride to the airport would Kevin end the suspense. But BethAnne knew their plane left about 6 p.m. And there it was on the departure board: Paris, France. "I was jumping up and down," BethAnne said.
A few days into the trip, Kevin asked BethAnne to stop on the street near their hotel, at the very spot where they had first seen the Eiffel Tower. She sat on the curb, and he handed her a laptop with a slide show of their baby pictures, photos from their year of dating, and some from their first few days in Paris. The last photo showed him holding an engagement ring. She looked up, and he was on his knees.
9 to 5
BethAnne is a registered dietitian for Kennedy Health Systems. Kevin is a geriatric physician who practices at several long-term-care facilities, hospices and geriatric rehabs, and is a professor of geriatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Making a home
The couple reside in Society Hill.
First steps
"God Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts.
Doing it their way
This wedding was all about Philly. Each guest table displayed a framed photo of a famous Philadelphia location - Rittenhouse Square, the Liberty Bell, the Art Museum, Boathouse Row. And on the couple's sweetheart table? Love Park, of course.
They gave soft pretzels as favors, and the Bryn Mawr Girls Choir sang during the ceremony.
Not a dry eye
Kevin teared up at the sight of BethAnne walking down the aisle. BethAnne felt overwhelmed seeing all of their loved ones gathered in the candlelit, historic church.
Bloopers
Kevin insisted on having a real bow tie, not the pre-tied variety. But on his wedding day, he couldn't figure out how to tie it, and neither could the bride's father or some other groomsmen. Luckily, Kevin's brother Scott saved the day with tie-tying skills he acquired at the Naval Academy.
BethAnne says
Get married for the marriage, not the wedding. "The day went by so fast, but now I have a marriage for the rest of my life. It doesn't matter if it's a great party or just the two of you down at the mayor's office. The reason for the wedding is the marriage."
The honeymoon
A post-wedding mini-moon in New York City and a summertime trip to the Mediterranean.
