Sideshow: Elvis, Elton's 'talk and tunes'
First, there was Donahue, who could feel pain you didn't even know you had in you. Then came the wise, beautiful, loving gals on The View and the reign of Oprah, ruler of the talk-show world, who supplements her TV therapy shtick by giving away free cars and toasters. Now arrives word that Elvis Costello and Elton John will enter the land of gabfest.

What pushed
Jay-Z
and
Beyoncé Knowles
to take out a marriage license the other day in Scarsdale, N.Y., as the tabloids report?
Perhaps their weekend in Philly put them in the mood. The couple, together since 2002, seemed dewy-eyed Saturday at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, where they attended the wedding of Jay-Z assistant
Robin Broughton
to
Ronald Smith
, who works for the Pennsylvania Department of State. Jay-Z appeared the next night at the Wachovia Center with
Mary J. Blige

Legal win for Alycia Lane
Former anchor
Alycia Lane
won a legal move late yesterday in a court battle against CBS3, which fired her Jan. 1. Lane attorney
Paul Rosen
of Spector Gadon & Rosen had filed papers in February in Common Pleas Court seeking depositions from station management as he considered whether to file suit against the station. Lawyers for CBS then persuaded
a judge to move the matter to federal court. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge
R. Barclay Surrick
ordered the case returned to Common Pleas Court, presumably a kinder legal atmosphere. Not so fast, said CBS lawyers. In a statement last night, they said: "While the matter was returned to state court, the federal judge indicated that once Ms. Lane actually filed a complaint, it was 'reasonably certain' that there will be jurisdiction in federal court. No court has yet ruled on our request to transfer this case to New York, where the parties agreed to litigate such matters, and we look forward to that issue being resolved soon in our favor."
