Tattle: That Carey-Cannon wedding is for real

really did marry

Nick Cannon

in the Bahamas last week - and, in a sure sign the marriage won't last, they have the tattoos to prove it.

The happy couple confirmed to People magazine that they tied the knot at Carey's Bahamian estate April 30, after a courtship that began in late March.

Cannon said they clicked instantly when Carey cast him in the video for her single, "Bye Bye."

"We had so much in common spiritually, and we laugh at the same things," Cannon said. "I didn't have to put on my Mac Daddy suave mode. I was able to be myself with her. We are both eternally 12 years old."

So is this marriage even legal?

A dozen guests attended the sunset wedding, where they served Maine lobster and Dom Perignon champagne. The bride wore a gown by Nile Cmylo that showed off her curves and faded from off-white to pale pink.

Cannon said he was speechless watching Carey walk down the aisle: "I was elated, but I was thinking, 'Don't pass out.' "

The pair said they've thought about having kids.

"It's part of the whole purpose of getting married," Carey said.

Star enjoys her own 'View'

Former "View" opinion-spouter Star Jones has lashed out at former boss Barbara Walters for her new memoir, "Audition."

In the book, Walters, who admitted to an affair with a married senator, discusses how Star wouldn't acknowledge her gastric-bypass surgery on the air. She also writes about Jones' lavish wedding, which wound up alienating viewers as Jones accepted gifts in return for promotion. (The marriage recently ended.)

Since what Walters wrote is true, Star criticized Walters' relationship with the senator.

Star told Us Weekly, "It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character."

And what true character would that be? To tell the truth, warts and all? It seems unlikely that after waiting this long to tell her story, Walters would juice it up merely to sell books.

She's already famous. And it's not like she's broke.

Study: 'Daily Show' not news

Following a yearlong study by the Project for Excellence in Journalism, the organization reports that people who are watching "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" are NOT getting their news from it.

If they were getting their news from the show, the group states, they wouldn't get it.

"You can't get the jokes if you're not watching the news," said project director Tom Rosenstiel. "The jokes are designed to make you think more about the news."

The show is actually making some very serious political commentary, "but they use humor to do it," Rosenstiel said.

While Stewart aims most of his firepower at Republicans, the show is pretty balanced in its bookings, the study noted. Of the clearly partisan, 15 guests were conservative and 18 were liberal. Presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain was a guest on Wednesday's show.

* DMX (aka Earl Simmons) was arrested this week for speeding on a suburban Phoenix freeway.

He was driving a bright-yellow 1966 Chevy (with a large "DMX" decal on the windshield) so he wasn't exactly inconspicuous and he was clocked going 114 mph.

DMX was booked on charges of criminal speeding, public endangerment and reckless driving and - the celebrity favorite - driving on a suspended license.

You'd think if you're flooring the pedal, you'd have time to make a quick stop at the DMV.

* Whoopi Goldberg (theater, mov-

ies, "The View" and radio) will serve as host of the 2008 Tony Awards June 15.

Nominations come out Tuesday.

* The Hollywood Reporter says

Johnny Knoxville and Parker Posey (filming "Happy Tears" in town with Demi Moore) are attached to star in "Fruitcake," about a boy named after his favorite dessert.

Could that be anything but a John Waters film? *
