Up-and-coming British actress
Lucy Gordon
, who appeared in
Serendipity
,
Frost
, and
Spider-Man 3
, was found dead Wednesday in her Paris flat of an apparent suicide.
"There were no suspicious circumstances. It appears that the young woman took her own life," an unnamed police detective told London's Daily Telegraph Online.
The Telegraph says the thesp, who would have turned 29 today, was inconsolable after the recent suicide of a friend in Britain.
Gordon had just finished shooting a biopic of Serge Gainsbourg in which she starred as the French singer's wife, actress Jane Birkin.
A rep for the Cannes Film Festival, where Serge Gainsbourg, vie héroïque is being promoted, said, "We are devastated by this news. . . . [Gordon] was a star in the making."
Pratt, gentleman, star, rapper . . .
In what must have been an awesome, road-to Damascus-level blinding burst of creativity, reality-TV fodder and C-List celeb
Spencer Pratt
has poured his genius into hip-hop.
In keeping with his ongoing quest for self-knowledge (or fame, whichever comes first), Pratt uses "I'm a Celebrity" to explore the vicissitudes of fame: "Baby, I get paid . . . I've been around the world. . . . I put my swag on . . . I'm in the limelight and I love it like my wife." (Eeew!)
The Hills persona, who staged a fake wedding with fellow social climber Heidi Montag for publicity, tells Usmagazine.com, "I feel honored to now be a part of music history. . . . First I took over TV, magazines, and the Internet, now I'm going after the airwaves. . . . Nothing can stop The Great White." Yeah, that's his stage name, The Great White. (Where's Captain Ahab when you need him?)
The Palin women bond
"I'm so proud of her," Alaska Gov.
Sarah Palin
tells People about daughter
Bristol
's high school graduation. While Bristol, 18, may do a two-year college biz program, she says she's really grooving on her voluntary work as an advocate for teen-pregnancy prevention.
"Girls need to imagine and picture their life with a screaming newborn baby and then think before they have sex," Bristol tells People. "If girls realized the consequences of sex, nobody would be having sex. Trust me. Nobody." Whoa!
Bristol's is a nanny-less house, which means the single mother has to get up twice during the night to feed her son, Tripp, who was born in December. Bristol's engagement with the boy's da, Levi Johnston, imploded when Tripp was 21/2 months old.
A girl for Lowe
A rep for
Chad Lowe
has confirmed that the actor and his gf, producer
Kim Painter
, on Saturday welcomed their first baby,
Mabel
.
"She woke up with a very big smile on her face and I knew exactly what that meant," Lowe, 41, tells Access Hollywood.
Lowe and Kim began dating in January '07.
Douglas for a nuke-free world
Michael Douglas
gave back to the world Wednesday by moderating a discussion by a panel of policy wonks over the question of reducing the world's nuclear weapons. Hosted by the Italian Embassy in Washington, the forum, which was sponsored by the Ploughshares Fund, featured former Sens.
Chuck Hagel
and
Sam Nunn
and
Robert Gallucci
, a former U.S. diplomat who helped resolve the 1994 nuclear crisis with North Korea.
Amy Winehouse hospitalized. Again
London's Daily Mirror yesterday revealed that singer
Amy Winehouse
was rushed to a hospital in the Caribbean island of St. Lucia last Friday. "She was complaining of chest pains, so the doctor advised her to come in, and she was kept in the observation and then released," says her rep. This is the third time in the last three months that Amy has been hospitalized. Her current condition is unknown.
Can't get good help these days
Kate Gosselin
, that sweet, meek (albeit kind of hot), reality-TV-minted mother of eight who represents all that is sacred in Middle America (vanity, jealousy, craven ambition), must face a Herculean amount of pressure, what with all her fame. How else to explain why she fired 40 - yeah,
forty
- nurses and nurse's aides over the course of
three months
.
Angela Krall
, a nurse who worked for Mrs G. for more than a year, tells Us Weekly Kate was so controlling that she posted "demeaning" signs around the house listing house rules. Krall says Mrs G. fired one unfortunate on the spot for washing her hands in the kitchen instead of the bathroom.
Pressure or not, Mrs G., who says she may divorce her allegedly philandering hubby, is digging celebrity: The mag says she just completed more than 20 paid lectures to plug her new tome, Eight Little Faces: A Mom's Journey.
Coda: An amazing guy!
"He's an amazing, amazing performer, a gifted, gifted guy, and really just an amazing guy. And it was fun doing this with him." So says the appropriately gracious
American Idol
winner
Kris Allen
, 23, about finalist
Adam Lambert
after vanquishing him. Kris said Adam should have the crown, "because he deserves it just as much as I do." A lesson to us all.
