Sideshow: The photog, the ripped T, and Mel

Mel Gibson is in trouble. Again. The Oscar-winning writer-director has been accused by an unnamed photog of assault. The paparazzo, who filed a police report for battery yesterday, says Mad Max attacked him Wednesday night at an L.A. nightclub and ripped his shirt. He claims Mel became irate when he tried to shoot the star and his pregnant fiancee, Oksana Grigorieva. TMZ.com says that according to the police, the photog dude suffered nary an injury, just a ripped T-shirt.

Pink: I'll bring the house down!

Doylestown superhero

Pink

(nee

Alecia Beth Moore

) is raring to go; chomping at the bit; firing on all cylinders; totally psyched . . . for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 13. The warbler has been added to the roster to perform.

"Last year I got to jump out of a window at the VMAs in L.A.," she said. "This year I can't wait to blow the roof off Radio City in New York." Fellow VMA singer Taylor Swift, 19, isn't just excited, she's ready to change the world by creating a Wagnerian Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) on MTV: "I love incorporating theatrics into my performances. The VMAs have always allowed artists to run with that."

A Law onto himself

There's a woman somewhere in the world who, at this very moment, is carrying a piece of history, a piece of celebrity. A piece of

Jude Law

(

eeew!

). Law's rep says the Brit thesp is expecting a baby with some faceless, nameless, anonymous chick who has not been named.

In a statement that reads more like a real estate contract, the rep tells Entertainment Weekly, "Mr. Law is no longer in a relationship with the individual concerned but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child's life." Law has three kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost.

Brit tab the Daily Mirror says Jude met the woman last year while filming Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes flick. (Maybe Jude, who's playing pipe-smoking Dr. Watson, used her to work off the excess, um, energy that's always enriched the Holmes-Watson relationship.)

Paula? Still a maybe. And Kara? Oh yeah!

Even as

Paula Abdul

's

American Idol

future remains uncertain, Fox has had the gall to sign fourth wheel

Kara DioGuardi

for the next installment of its ratings winner.

"Her deal is done. There are no ifs, ands or buts," an anon source tells E!Online's Marc Malkin. "Done. She will be back."

Her salary's another thing: Reportedly she will make like a 100,000th of the salary paid to senior judge Simon "Darth Vader" Cowell.

Kim K.: Like, you know, thanks

"I truly appreciate all the love and support I've been receiving over the last 48 hours."

So writes melancholy Kim Kardashian on her blog. "I just want you all to know I'm doing OK, and I really appreciate your support."

K.K., 28, is recovering from her breakup Monday with bf of two years Reggie Bush, 24.

Let it out, girl, it's good to cry.

Legend Marley's 'Legend' is a legend

So it is. The late great reggae guru

Bob Marley

, who never had a Top 40 hit (or won a Grammy) during his brief career, has passed a landmark in album sales.

Marley's Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers, which debuted in '84 at No. 168 on the Billboard charts and peaked at No. 54, has become only the 17th album to sell more than 10 million copies since Nielsen SoundScan began counting in '91. The last album to break the sound barrier was Norah Jones' Come Away With Me in February '07.

"The joke about Legend is that it sold so many copies because stoners can't remember that they already bought it," says Billboard senior correspondent Gail Mitchell.

Shakira shakes off her shackles

What does

Shakira

's album

She Wolf

mean for the world? Nothing less than Freedom Itself. "I think I felt trapped in a golden cage for many years," Shakira, 32, tells USA Today, adding she's been challenging "the culture, the education, the upbringing, what society expects from you."

Shakira, who used two live wolves in the video for the CD's first single, says she's been revived by her inner wolf: "The she-wolf is that individual that satisfies the desires inside of all of us and sets them free." (Providing you buy the CD, of course.)

Chesney: No Simpson flirtation

Country darling

Kenny Chesney

, who split with his first wife,

Renée Zellweger

, after four - undoubtedly blissful - months, is raging mad over rumors he and

Jessica Simpson

flirted, like, right in front of Jess' cruel, heartbreaking ex-boyfriend,

Tony Romo

, at a Fourth of July bash days before Tony dumped Jess.

"Tony's a friend, and I wouldn't flirt with a buddy's girlfriend," an incensed Kenny tells People. "More importantly, Jessica was just being sweet and there was nothing else to it." Kenny adds a Zen koan for us all to chew on: "I wonder if I wasn't famous if anyone would even care" about the supposed flirtation.

The Pratts to have a brat?

Is there a Pratt brat on the way? Celeb Web site JustJared.com says

Heidi Montag Pratt

and

Spencer Pratt

, her hubby of three months, were photographed in a kids' store in Lalaland. Could there be better proof?
