Julie & Julia Yum. Like Nora Ephron's captivating film, Meryl Streep's performance as chef Julia Child is haute cuisine disguised as comfort food, a complex preparation yielding effects both broadly entertaining and subtly moving. Amy Adams is winsome as blogger Julie Powell, who finds herself by using Child's recipes for life. PG-13

(500) Days of Summer The anatomy of a love affair, one in which the lover (Joseph Gordon Levitt) has more emotional investment than the beloved (Zooey Deschanel). Disarming and bittersweet, the film forsakes a chronological narration for a much livelier fast-forward and rewind through the best and worst days. PG-13
