'The men who stare at goats'

This poster makes me laugh. Maybe it's because George Clooney and Jeff Bridges are channeling the attitudes (and the facial hair) of characters they created in some of my favorite Coen Brothers movies (even though this isn't a Coen Brothers movie). Or maybe it's because goats are funny. And let's get this straight, goats ARE funny; sheep are not. Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey are in on the joke, too.

And the range of all four actors' expressions - each one subtly different from the others - makes movie worth checking out. This is a smart, grown-up comedy, jammed full of irony and a very specific way of looking (staring) at the world. The ancient eye symbol, unblinking and all-seeing, looking down on the well-mapped globe below, tells us that. The tagline "No Goats. No Glory" brings it home. And the silhouettes of a man sitting in a chair with his hands on his knees, and the goats in different stages of collapse complete a really smart poster of very simple images. You can tell when the marketing guys enjoy what they're selling. It's the other white meat. Go see "The Men Who Stare at Goats," and all will be revealed.
