Sideshow: France embraces Eastwood again
Move over, Jerry Lewis. The French have taken another American to their hearts. Clint Eastwood, whose screen characters have been the quintessence of squinty, unsmiling, taciturn, solitary American heroism, is clearly a hit in the land of the Three Musketeers.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy made Eastwood's day yesterday, naming him a commander in the French Legion of Honor. The citation praised Eastwood, 79, for the body of his work over so many years and for his appeal to audiences around the world.
It was the second time the French have honored Eastwood. Two years ago, former French President Jacques Chirac made him a knight of the Legion of Honor. Yesterday's honor bumps Eastwood up to grade three on the legion's five-grade scale. Dirty Harry would be so proud.

has countered TLC's lawsuit against him by filing a $5 million suit of his own against the cabler, reports People.com. He contends that TLC reps hurt his reputation and career by persuading other media outlets to avoid him. "Their behavior has caused Jon great anguish and it has caused him financial losses," Jon's lawyer,
Mark Heller
, tells People.
Gosselin's suit also argues that TLC owes $175,000 for shows already televised. The cable channel's suit against Gosselin contends that he has violated his contract by making TV appearances without TLC's permission.

The ex-gov of Alaska writes on her Facebook page: "As you probably have heard, the AP snagged a copy of my memoir. . . . And as is expected, the AP and a number of subsequent media outlets are erroneously reporting the contents of the book. Keep your powder dry, read the book, and enjoy it! Lots of great stories about my family, Alaska, and the incredible honor it was to run alongside Senator John McCain," the Republican standard bearer.
AP has reported that the book confirms tension between the Palin and McCain camps, and says it stands by its story.
