London's Daily Mail says authorities have hospitalized

Adam Ant

(

Stuart Goddard

), 55, under Britain's Mental Health Act following a series of "troubled public appearances," including a gig last week where the New Waver unleashed an obscenity-laced tirade against Christians.

Ant was similarly "sectioned" in '03 when he threatened to assault a neighbor - and was later found naked in the neighbor's basement.

Last month, Ant said he has "had [a] lifelong battle against manic depression."

In a post on www.themusicfix.co.uk, he tells his fans, "I am having a well-earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure."
