Dell Music Center gets a face-lift and a new name
You're not going to believe how good the legendary Dell Music Center in East Fairmount Park is looking this year after $6 million in improvements.

The place is so fresh, it's even gotten an updated name.
New concrete work and seats are the most obvious update on the Dell's original 1930 design. The field's been scooped out so seating now rises significantly at the back, radically improving sight lines and acoustics, and making the 7,000-seat showcase feel more intimate. The facility is now handicapped- and wheelchair-friendly.
Performing talent will appreciate improved backstage and front of house details.
And while the parking area has been reconstructed, the city-owned Dell is sticking with its tradition of free parking.
Ticket prices for the mostly R&B- and jazz-focused shows also appeal, with a $40 top, $25 second level and $10 lawn tab for in-house produced events.
Besides tonight's War-topped bill, the Dell brings in the Whispers, Regina Belle and Carol Riddick on Aug. 16; the O'Jays, Mindi Abair and Inca, Aug. 23; and Brian McKnight and Kindred the Family Soul, Aug. 30. Details at www.mydelleast.com or 215-685-9560.
