Paranormal Activity 2

reached right into the wallets and purses of movie audiences over the weekend and extracted $41.5 million.

Now, that's scary.

The pseudo-documentary, a more polished prequel and sequel to last year's low-budget hit, was the weekend's top box-office draw, kicking last week's leader, Jackass 3D, down into second place, with $21.6 million.

The slapstick action flick Red, with Bruce Willis and a cast that includes Helen Mirren as a hit woman, grabbed third place, with $15 million.

Hereafter, Clint Eastwood's peek into the next world, took in $12 million for fourth place as it expanded into national release.

The Social Network, a comedy of manners about the founders of Facebook, finished fifth for the weekend, with receipts of $7.3 million.
